Kolkata sizzles at 43 degrees, breaks 50 year record

In Kolkata's Alipur and Dumdum areas, temperatures soared to 43 degrees Celsius, marking the highest April temperatures in 50 years, as reported by the Alipur Meteorological Department. This surpasses the previous record of 41.7 degrees Celsius in 1980 and 43.3 degrees Celsius in 1954.

A heatwave warning has been issued for all districts in South Bengal until the 4th of May, signaling extreme caution amid the intense heat. The scorching conditions are expected to persist in Kolkata and across South Bengal with North and South 24 Parganas likely to experience extreme heatwave conditions.

In contrast, rainfall is anticipated in Darjeeling and Kalimpong of North Bengal, with precipitation expected to increase in Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and Coochbehar districts starting tomorrow.
